Hacton Pupils Jump To It!

Hacton pupils took a journey across the shimmering stream, through the fearsome forest and were faced by the mighty mountain on Wednesday morning when they joined Claire on a musical adventure as she searched for a way out of her computer game. Performed by West End in Schools, Jump To It! was a positive story of how books can contribute to our personal development and a cautionary tale of how easy it is to become lost in the digital world instead of finding your own imagination.

Hacton Literacy Quiz: Take the Challenge!

Literacy week kicked off to an exciting start on Monday as House Captains hosted an inter house literacy quiz for Key Stage 2. Famous children's books, films and spellings; these were just some of the rounds which tested the children's knowledge of literacy- with the anagram round proving to be rather tricky (even for the teachers)! Tension was running high by half time as the scores were close. However, after a short break and substitutions, Yellow team snatched victory with a whopping 53 out of a possible 80 points. Congratulations to all the competitors and the House Captains who hosted with poise and presence throughout !

Next week we will be holding Literacy Week in celebration of World Book Day on Thursday 1st March. To promote and inspire reading, we have a timetable of amazing activities for the children (and staff) to enjoy including theatre workshops and author visits. On Friday we end the week by inviting all the children and staff to dress as a book character of their choice!

Primary Athletics Competition

An excited team from Year 6 travelled to Emerson Park sports college on Monday afternoon to compete in the Aviva Sportshall Primary Athletics competition. Adrenalin ran high as children from eight local primary schools sprinted, jumped and threw in various indoor field and track events. All the Hacton children performed well, demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship. The afternoon ended on a high note as Charlie romped home in the 4x1 boys relay... raucous cheers echoed throughout!

Woodwind Ensemble Perform for the School

On Tuesday, the Havering Music School Woodwind Ensemble gave a performance to our KS1 and KS2 children. The children were delighted to hear the theme tune from Wallace and Grommit and Micky Mouse's dancing sequence from Fantasia. They also enjoyed listening to some Bach and Tudor music. The session was very informative, providing the children with lots of interesting facts about the woodwind family.

Do any of our children remember the difference between the clarinet and the oboe? Housepoints will be awarded to the first 5 children who give the correct answer to Miss Barnecutt!

Year 5 Visit the Royal Observatory

Last week Year 5 visited the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. It was a fascinating day and thoroughly enjoyed by all pupils and adults. Each class meandered their way through the space galleries, trying their hand at launching a space mission and locating stars with a telescope. In the space workshop, pupils were able to show off their knowledge of their science topic Earth, Sun and Moon and learn some new facts too! Finally the highlight of the day was a visit to the Peter Harrison Planetarium. Pupils sat back in the reclined cinema seats to watch the show ‘Meet the Neighbours’ and were taken on an exhilarating journey through the night sky that was projected above them.

Hacton 2 - 1 Suttons

On Thursday 2nd February Hacton played Suttons at home. We won the toss and chose to play up hill so in the second half they got exhausted. In the first half William pulled off an amazing save which kept it at 0 - 0. Unfortunately he couldn’t save one shot which took the score to 1 - 0 to Suttons.

The second half began and we were in tip-top condition. Our solid back line kept out some amazing chances with the midfield defending and setting up chances. Shortly after our Captain (Aaron) scored a stunning goal; 1- 1! Without a doubt Hacton were going to win!! Seconds before the full time whistle, with the last kick of the game, Morgan swung in a great corner and the ball deflected off their defenders leg. Goal! 2 – 1 and full time.

The weather was bitterly cold but there were a good number of supporters. We rushed into school to get warm as soon as the match ended.

A report by Hacton football team players Aaron and Charlie (6JF).

Hacton Truimph in Rotary Quiz

On the 1st February the Hacton Quiz team (Lauren, Grace, Charlie and Sachin) competed in the schools Rotary Quiz held at Nelmes Primary School. It was here that the four nervous contestants (along with all of the others) waited to hear the results of this mind boggling quiz. What is the capital of Afghanistan? Where is the Angel Falls? Where is the Great Wall of China? These are just a few of the questions that were fired at the primary school pupils. Hacton triumphantly stormed to the lead just one point ahead of Nelmes. After a nail biting conclusion Hacton were triumphant and were through to the next round! Well done to all the the members in the Hacton Quiz team and good luck in the next round!

A report by Grace (Year 6).
